Mystery unraveled

A French colleague asked me if there is a new Mountain in France that she never heard of or if I have difficulties in spelling the Alpe d'Huez in the correct way? :-) And the answer is actually none of the above. But through that comment I realised that it might actually be a good thing to shortly explain the history about the Alpe d'HuZes name.

The idea of the Alpe d'HuZes dates back to the summer of 2005. Back then, the initiators thought it would be a nice idea to climb the famous Alpe d'Huez six times in one day, either by bike or on foot. And when you then translate the word six in Dutch it is "Zes". So the name Alpe d'HuZes is a combination of the name Alpe d'Huez and Zes, which then makes Alpe d'Huzes
